She knew she had a jail sentence and a stint in rehab to complete.
And yet Lindsay Logan looks remarkably relaxed in shots taken behind the scenes for her cover shoot for the latest issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

In video footage taken a week before Lohan went to jail for violating the terms of her probation, she looks calm and happy to pose for photographs on a vintage yacht

‘The clothes were really beautiful,’ she told the magazine's reporter on the behind the scenes footage.

‘Being on this boat with such history and the clothes and the hair shorter, it was really refreshing in a way and nice. You kind of feel like that person.’

Even before going to jail, the 24-year-old Mean Girls star was looking forward to getting on with her career – she starts filming drama Inferno at the end of September about the life of former porn star Linda Lovelace.

‘A lot of people pass judgement and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the reason I wanted to be part of this project was because it’s more of a heartbreaking story,’ she said.

‘It’s the tale of this woman who got herself into a situation that she couldn’t get out of.

'She was young and you don’t really read into situations as much. So I think it’s really empowering for women to see to never give up.’

Lohan used the Vanity Fair interview which accompanies the shoot to say how serious she is about her career.

'I want my career back. I know that I'm a damn good actress, and it's been my passion since I was a child, and I know that when I care about something, I put 100 per cent and more into it,' she says.

However, she acknowledges she won't find it easy.

'I have to support myself. I have to pay for my apartment. I have to pay for food. People root for me and say they want me to work, but then everyone is against me.'

The interview covers a range of subjects, including her dysfunctional upbringing and tumultuous career, with Lohan claiming to have learned her lesson.
'I'm a completely different person now,' she says

'I'm not getting any younger. I want the respect that I had when I was doing great movies. And if that takes not going out to a club at night then so be it. It's not fun anyway.I don't care. It's the same thing every time.'

Lohan says she made a number of mistakes as a result of bad judgement.

'I've admitted to the things that I've done, you know, dabbling in certain things and trying things because I was young and curious and thought it was okay because other people were doing it and other people put it in front of me.'

‘And I see what happened in my life because of it.'
Lohan adds that her role models at the time were unhealthy and encouraged her to behave irresponsibly.

'I would look up to those girls… the Britney’s and whatever. And I would be like, "I want to be like that."'

But she also says none of her behaviour would be considered controversial if she were just another university student.

'These were my college years, but they were in the public eye. I was irresponsible. I was experimenting.I was doing certain things that people do ten times more of when they're in college.

'I didn't have any structure,' she adds. 'In the beginning, I had structure, and then I lost all the structure in my life.

'I think a lot of it was because when I was doing my first slew of movies, everything was very go-go, and I had a lot of responsibility, and I think just the second I didn't have [structure] anymore - I was 18,19 with a ton of money.'
And the actress insists that contrary to media reports, she has never had a problem with drugs.

'I've never abused prescription drugs. I never have - never in my life. I have no desire to. That's not who I am.'


Running late: Lohan ran into the Santa Monica courthouse this morning for a meeting with her probation officer


Lohan was released from jail early last month after serving 13 days of a 90 day sentence for violating the terms of her probation for two DUIs.

After attending three weeks of a court ordered 90-day stint in rehab, Lohan was released on August 25.
